1 · MCP server

Your assistant explains the market

The tounify MCP server lets an AI assistant answer questions about European electricity pricing and about integrating the tounify API — how a market builds its price, which parameters a request needs, how to read a response — from our reviewed market write-ups and live coverage figures instead of from its training data.

How a question reaches tounify

The server offers your assistant a set of tools — small, named abilities, each with a description of when to use it. You only ever ask in plain words; the assistant reads those descriptions and picks the tool itself.

  1. 1

    You ask

In plain words, in Claude, Cursor, VS Code or any assistant that speaks MCP:

“Why does Germany need a grid tariff?”

  2. 2

    Your assistant picks a tool

It matches your question to the tool whose description fits:

    explain_country_pricing
  3. 3

    tounify answers the tool

From our reviewed market write-ups and live coverage figures — not from the model’s memory.

  4. 4

    You get the answer

Your assistant replies in its own words, grounded in what tounify returned.

The tools, and a question for each

Each card is one tool: what it does, a question that makes your assistant use it, and the tool's name — the label your assistant shows in its activity while it works. Try any of the questions once you are connected.

Explain a market

How a country stacks supply, network charges, taxes and levies, who sets each layer, and which request parameters that makes essential.

You ask
“Why does Germany need a grid tariff?”

Tool your assistant callsexplain_country_pricing

Explain an API concept

What a parameter, a response field, a unit or a plan term means, answered from the published reference.

You ask
“What does include=fees add to a day-ahead response?”

Tool your assistant callsexplain_api_concept

Check a request before you send it

Flags the requests that would return a valid-looking but incomplete price, such as a missing network layer.

You ask
“I'm about to request German day-ahead prices with just a consumption tariff and include=fees. Will that give me the full price?”

Tool your assistant callslint_dayahead_request

Diagnose a response

Explains an error status, an empty series or a price that looks off, and says what to change.

You ask
“I'm getting 400 unknown tariff id, but I copied the id from your companies response.”

Tool your assistant callsdiagnose_response

Check coverage

Whether tounify holds data for a country and tariff direction, read live rather than from memory.

You ask
“Do you cover Polish grid fees?”

Tool your assistant callscheck_coverage

Describe a connection

Which properties of a customer's grid connection matter in a country, and the values each can take there.

You ask
“Which details of a household connection matter for prices in Austria?”

Tool your assistant callsexplain_connection_properties

Plan an integration

The ordered calls for your country and use case, with the polling rhythm and what to assert on.

You ask
“Which calls do I need to show tomorrow's hourly prices to Dutch households?”

Tool your assistant callsbuild_integration_recipe

Size your plan

Turns a described integration into a monthly call estimate and the plan that fits it.

You ask
“5,000 heat pumps polling hourly — which plan do we need?”

Tool your assistant callsestimate_usage

Keep it working

Writes a CI test that catches a missing price layer or a retired tariff before your users do.

You ask
“How do I stop my integration breaking silently?”

Tool your assistant callsgenerate_integration_test

Track regulatory changes

What changes in a country's taxes, levies, VAT and network charges, from which day, and by how much — on plans that include the change feed.

You ask
“What changes in the Dutch electricity price on 1 January?”

Tool your assistant callslist_regulatory_changes

Good to know

  • It works with your tounify account: your assistant asks you to sign in once and approve the connection, and clients without a sign-in flow send one of your API tokens instead.
  • Every account gets a free allowance of tool calls; the plans whose pricing card lists the MCP server include it without limit.
  • Read-only: it explains, checks and plans, and never returns electricity prices — those come from the REST API.
  • On plans that include the regulatory change feed, one tool also states the regulatory figures behind each dated change, one component at a time.
  • Do not paste credentials or personal data into a question.

How the MCP server handles data is described in the privacy policy.

2 · RSS change feed

Know every regulatory price change before your users do

The tounify change feed tells you, country by country, every regulatory change that moves a component of the electricity price — a tax, a levy, VAT, a network charge, a regulated retail price, a time-of-use window — from which day it applies, what it was and what it becomes, and whether our API already serves it. It reaches you where you work: a feed reader, a Slack or Teams channel, your calendar, your assistant, or the explorer in the cockpit.

Not just a news feed

One record behind your API, your assistant and your inbox — so what you read, what you ask and what you bill all agree.

  • API

The same figures your API serves

Every amount is the figure our API serves, net of VAT unless it is a rate, and each change says from when the API serves it. Your news and your prices never disagree.

  • MCP

    Your assistant knows it too

Ask your assistant what changes in a market, or at a site by its postal code, and from which day: the MCP server answers from the same record, with the figures.

  • Cockpit

    Browse it, no integration needed

Look up any change by market and component in the cockpit, and save the view as a feed for a channel, a calendar or your own code.

  • Calendar

    Plan ahead, don’t react

Every announced change ahead, its effective day in your calendar, and five years of history behind it for every market we serve.

Where it reaches you

  • RSS / Atom

Subscribe in a feed reader, or post every change into a Slack or Teams channel.

  • Calendar

Every effective date as an all-day event in Outlook or Google Calendar.

  • JSON

The same records for your own code or an automation in Zapier, Make or n8n.

  • MCP

Ask your assistant what changes, where and when — it answers with the figures.

  • Cockpit explorer

Browse every change by country and date, no integration needed.

What the feed holds — a preview

The changes coming up and just in force across every market as header lines, and changes from more than a year ago in full. The cockpit opens every change, with its figures and source.

Electricity excise restructured and lowered to offset the VAT change on the standing charge

The finance law for 2025 split the electricity excise into a base rate and a uniform surcharge that funds the price equalisation for France's non-interconnected territories, moved the funding of rural electrification from the network tariff into the excise, and lowered the excise to offset the end of the reduced VAT rate on the standing charge.
